Thank you to LibraryThing and Amy Martin for giving me this opportunity to review this hilarious book! I loved it from the first pages. It’s not only funny but also so relatable. Martin shares her personal experiences with her readers in a way that is both entertaining and informative. I wish I had access to this book when I just starting out as a new mom. This book comes at a time when you can talk about the messy aspects of motherhood with honesty and in this case humor. It’s a must read for everyone whether you have children or not. Many thanks for sharing this book with me. - Sheriann S
If Dave Barry and Erma Bombeck had a baby it would be Sh*ts & Giggles! - Charlie M
Sh*ts and Giggles is my first experience with Amy Martin's writing. I have to say that it will not be the last. I laughed so hard all throughout the book. I definitely found the book to be relatable. It felt so good to get away from the stresses of life and parenting and have a much needed good laugh. I loved it. It was hilarious and readers will not want to miss it. I am giving Sh*ts and Giggles five stars. I highly recommend it for moms who are looking for some laughs relating to parenting. I would love to read more like this one from Amy Martin in the future. I received a paperback copy of Amy Martin's Sh*ts and Giggles from the publisher, but was not required to write a review, nor a positive one. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion. - Amy C
This book is similar to what to expect when expecting. It is also nothing like that book at all. This book is funny, informative, and real! I could relate to so many things just starting off, especially the part where your labor nurse is EVERYTHING!! As I continued to read and learn and compare I had to stop and pause. My oldest is 14 and youngest is five so I am experiencing and spectrum of this book all at once. It is beautifully chaotic and feels like I am talking with a friend who has been there, and is right there with me. I really appreciate the read. Thank you. - Christina P
A hilarious debut! Loved reading Amy’s book; I laughed out loud often and absolutely loved the footnotes. The tone throughout the book is consistent and wonderfully dark and funny. The writing is clear, with the various sections and chapters helping organize the content in a way that made the book digestible and easy to refer back to. Not only is the book enjoyable, but it’s useful, to boot! I’ll definitely be recommending to others, as they can keep it handy as their own children grow up and when they need a humorous reminder that they’re not going through parenthood alone. - Catherine J
My wife and I enjoyed that book, since we've been through it all with our children. It's a must read for those who wants kids and those who are expecting. It's a great laugh for those who already went through it. - Jean-François B
This was a hilarious outlook on motherhood and parenting. I laughed out loud reading it and regularly hollered for Josh so I could read aloud sections to him. Quite fun and enjoyable to read. Short essays that were easy to finish and then go answer a child before reading another. 4.5 stars! - Karen J
As a mom of a tween and teen, this book gave me everything I was hoping for—entertaining, funny and so relatable. So many times I felt like she was writing my experiences, just with much better sense of humor! Definitely worth the read! - Allison H
I won this a librarything giveaway. It is a series of very funny essays about motherhood. Some place had me nodding and saying “been there” and others had me chuckling out loud. Recommended for mothers of all ages. - Miriam M
General information first.. the format is perfect, short (and I mean short!) 'chapters' and the book ends up being about 200 pages long... so not a hard read. Great for summer reading and also if you happen to have just given birth and need something to pass the time whilst doing feedings. Recommended audience would be moms... first time moms, five time moms, etc. The tone of the book is authentic and hilarious and thus an easy and quick read. It comes across as if I was sitting with one of my friends and she was talking about her experiences of being a mom. Its exactly things I have thought or even said myself and wondered if anyone else felt that same way. I can confirm at least this author has. This book made me laugh and nod like "yup, been there before!". I think I would have liked some of the 'chapters' to be a bit longer but still was a good book. Overall I liked this, enjoyed reading it and truly would've loved to have had it after I gave birth to my kids... would have been perfect to start reading postpartum when your emotions are everywhere and you feel so alone. Would've brought some levity to the whole endeavor. - Heather M
I'm not a mom or a mom-to-be, yet I appreciated Amy Martin's endless hilarious anecdotes about motherhood. It was refreshing to read that motherhood isn't all about living Hollywood Hallmark moments. She details the realities of breastfeeding, the beyond disgusting times, of which there are many, and the traumatic teen years with sharp humour. You may as well laugh, or all you'll do is cry. I like that she never let us forget that her celebrity husband traveled a lot. She keeps it real throughout. Also, 5*s for the fantastic illustrations!
I won this in a LibraryThing giveaway for my Little Free Library. #Verobeachlittlefreelibrary - Kara K
A hilarious take on motherhood, the cover alone will get the giggles started. The book is full of funny tidbits and short stories about the crazy life of a mom. I thought it was well written and captured the spirit of Funny in just the right way. I definitely recommend. - Janet O
